Organizations, Spaces, and Environments in Builder form the foundation for creating dynamic, efficient, and visually compelling digital experiences. A Space contains content based on models, such as Pages or Sections and can even integrate with your data, whether it be Builder Data or third-party data.

  • Organizations are like a company while Spaces are like projects within that company.
  • Page, Section, and Data models are the building blocks for creating content and functionality in your app.
  • Environments allow for staging, testing, and reviewing content across development, staging, and production.

The video below covers these fundamental concepts. The rest of this document provides a written alternative of the same information.

An Organization is the highest-level grouping in Builder, typically representing your company or team. It provides a centralized location for managing users, settings, and billing for all associated Spaces.

Permissions and administrative controls for your Builder content start at the Organization level, ensuring alignment and consistency across your teams and projects. For more detail, read Organization overview.

Spaces are containers within an Organization that hold your content and models. Each Space can be tailored to a specific project, brand, or initiative while providing customization of settings, permissions, and integrations. For example, a company managing multiple brands can create separate Spaces for each brand to ensure clear separation of content.

Builder uses three types of models to structure and manage content: Page models, Section models, and Data models. These models work together to deliver dynamic, flexible, and visually rich experiences. Understanding the differences between these models helps you determine the best way to organize your content and build a scalable strategy.

For more information, read Intro to Models.

Page models enable URL-based visual Page compositions. These are ideal for publishing standalone pages with unique layouts and designs, offering flexibility for creating tailored user experiences.

Section models support consistent or personalized visual content across multiple Pages. Common use cases include headers, footers, or promotional banners that maintain brand consistency while providing personalization features.

Data models simplify the management of structured data. These models are useful for content requiring a consistent format and can be queried and filtered easily within an application.

Combining these models helps establish a robust content strategy that delivers flexibility, scalability, and visually engaging digital experiences. For more information.

All models are in the Content Models section of the Builder app. The video below shows opening the Content Models section, where existing models are listed, and where to create new models.

Admins can assign specific roles and permissions to users for precise control over what they can view, edit, or manage. This role-based access fosters collaboration while maintaining security and accountability across teams. For more information, visit Managing users.

Environments provide a structured way to manage different stages of content development, such as development, staging, and production. Each environment gives you a place for isolated testing and review, so you can make sure your content meets quality standards before going live.

This approach supports a full-featured content lifecycle and reduces the risk of errors in published experiences. For more information, read Understanding Environments.
